Our office is located in the passenger terminal building at the Whakatane Airport, Whakatane. Our helicopters operate from outside the office at the airport also.

What health issues should I be aware of?

The sulphur emitting from the Island can make breathing difficult for people who suffer from asthma. Please ensure you bring your inhalers and inform you guide/pilot so in the event you may feel unwell he / she can assist you to fresher air or with your inhaler. If you wish to wear your gas mask throughout your time on the island then that is not a problem.

Parts of the Island are very hot so be sure to listen to the guide/pilot and follow his or her instructions and this will minimize scolding or burning from various hot areas of the Island.
During summer it is advisable to bring water to drink as inside the crater it can get very hot.

Do we need special clothing / equipment?

Basic out-door clothing and footwear. Terrain is easy but cross trainers or hiking boots are best, as there are no formed walkways (no open sandals). We provide each visitor with a hard hat and a gas mask for their time on the Island.

Sufficient to walk and stand for an hour on undulating terrain.
